Meschiya Lake didn't get to New Orleans like most people. She rolled out of her home state South Dakota , hooked up with a circus in Atlanta and toured with them for a couple of years, eventually winding up in New Orleans singing on the street (the circus spent winters there) with an ecumenicality seldom heard in singers nowadays or anytime. Then it was off the pavement and onto the stage, back out of New Orleans and all over the place (NOLA remaining the base), the singing's constant being that it's straight from a heart as big as the voice.
